Finding Paradise Hidden in Plain Sight: Why Cien Palmas is a Must-Visit in Todos Santos

If you’ve spent any time exploring downtown historic Todos Santos, you already know the town is a masterclass in beautiful contradictions. Vibrant art galleries sit next to weathered brick facades, and dusty coastal roads open up into spectacular modern courtyards.

But there is one specific culinary destination in the center of town that feels less like a restaurant and more like a portal to another world.

Welcome to Cien Palmas.

Step Through the Passage, Leave the Heat Behind

Located right in the heart of downtown Todos Santos, Cien Palmas is an absolute dream of a space. While it sits just steps away from the bustling main streets, the vibe here is relaxed, quiet, and completely unhurried.

The magic begins the moment you approach the entrance. As you walk through the narrow entry passageway, the ambient sounds of the town completely fade away. You emerge on the other side into a literal hidden paradise: a stunning, breezy desert oasis shaded by a massive grove of over a hundred towering palm trees.

Operating as a peaceful open-air café and restaurant by day, it is the ultimate destination to slow down, disconnect from your phone, and comfortably escape the midday Baja heat under a canopy of green.

A Masterclass in Plant-Based Accommodations

And don’t worry, my non-vegan friends—there are plenty of incredible options here for you, too, I promise! The reason I love highlighting plant-based dishes is that navigating hidden ingredients can sometimes be a challenge down here in Baja. I want to celebrate the local kitchens that go above and beyond to create true culinary delights for vegetarians and vegans alike. It can be a tricky road out here sometimes, but these spots completely nail it for every single diner at the table! 😉

As a vegan, I am always a little hyper-vigilant when scanning menus in town. But the team at Cien Palmas makes plant-based dining a pure joy. While their standard kitchen offerings naturally fluctuate to highlight what is fresh and seasonal, the staff here are exceptionally warm and welcoming.

If you don’t see a dedicated vegan section on the physical menu during your visit, don’t stress—just speak directly to your server about your dietary preferences. The kitchen is incredibly flexible and more than happy to customize spectacular plant-based variations for you.

On my recent visits, they completely blew me away with three custom creations that you absolutely have to ask for:

  • The Vegan Patatas Bravas: A spectacular, smoky, and deeply comforting potato dish that they custom-prepare to be completely dairy-free and plant-based. It has the perfect crispy exterior and an incredible savory kick.

  • The Vegan Beet Salad: A vibrant, refreshing garden salad showcasing beautifully roasted beets, crisp greens, and clean flavors that highlight the region's incredible agricultural abundance.

  • The Vegan Tostada: A gorgeous, beautifully crisp, and layered creation that delivers the ultimate crunch of fresh, bright Baja flavors. It is light, satisfying, and pairs perfectly with a cold morning brew.

Boutique Stays and Late Night Vibes

What makes Cien Palmas truly unique is that it isn’t just a place to grab a quick brunch. It also operates as an enchanting boutique micro-hotel. Tucked quietly into the back properties of the palm grove are three charming, minimalist casitas. If you are looking for a serene, self-check-in stay where you can literally wake up inside a private oasis, you can book these directly on their website.

And if you happen to visit later in the day or during a special community event, the peaceful daytime café completely transforms. The string lights glow under the dark desert sky, the bar hums, and you might even catch one of the owners, Santi, spinning vinyl records and DJ’ing under the palms to create the ultimate nighttime vibe.

Know Before You Go (The Insider Secret)

Before you pack your bags and head downtown, there is one crucial detail you need to keep in mind. Like many of the finest independent, seasonal gems in Baja California Sur, Cien Palmas closes its doors completely during the peak hot summer months.

Because they close for summer hibernation, always make sure to double-check their current operational calendar and active hours on their Instagram page before planning your visit!
